How the Buyback Program Works

Five simple steps from your first call to cash in hand. We handle the heavy lifting — literally — so selling your used boxes requires minimal effort from your team.

01

Contact Us

Reach out by phone, email (info@boiseboxes.com), or through our website form. Let us know the approximate quantity, sizes, and condition of the boxes you want to sell. Photos are helpful but not required.

02

Get a Quote

Based on your description, we provide a preliminary per-box or per-pallet price quote. Pricing is based on size, wall type, condition grade, and total volume. Larger quantities earn higher per-unit rates.

03

Schedule Pickup

We schedule a pickup at your location anywhere in the Treasure Valley. Our trucks and crew handle all loading — you do not need to palletize or prepare the boxes beyond basic sorting. Same-day pickup is available for urgent needs.

04

On-Site Inspection

Our team inspects the boxes at your location or upon arrival at our facility. We verify sizes, count quantities, and assign condition grades. If the actual condition differs from the initial description, we adjust the quote transparently before finalizing.

05

Get Paid

Once inspection is complete, we issue payment. Most sellers receive payment the same day via check or ACH transfer. For recurring accounts, we offer net-15 and net-30 invoicing with automatic deposits.

What Boxes We Accept

We buy most standard corrugated boxes in reasonable condition. Here is a quick checklist to help you determine which boxes qualify for our buyback program.

We Accept

  • Dry and clean — no moisture damage, mold, or food contamination
  • All flaps present and attached (minor tears acceptable)
  • Walls structurally sound with no large holes or crush damage
  • Previous labels or tape are acceptable (we remove them)
  • Prior printing or branding is acceptable on all grades
  • Flattened or assembled — either condition works for pickup

We Cannot Accept

  • Wet, water-stained, or showing signs of mold growth
  • Contaminated with food, grease, oil, or chemical residue
  • Severely crushed with structural wall failure
  • Wax-coated boxes (these require separate recycling)
  • Boxes with hazardous material residue or markings

Note: Boxes we cannot buy through the buyback program can still be processed through our recycling service.

Grading System & Pricing

Every box we purchase is assigned a condition grade during inspection. Higher-grade boxes command higher buyback rates because they have more remaining useful life.

Grade A

Like New

Highest Rate

Single-use or very lightly used boxes. Clean surfaces, sharp creases, all flaps intact and firmly attached. No structural wear, minimal label residue. These boxes can be resold for retail-facing and brand-sensitive applications.

Grade B

Good

High Rate

Light wear including minor scuffing, some label residue, or faded printing. Structurally sound with all flaps and walls intact. Suitable for B2B shipping, warehousing, and internal transfers.

Grade C

Fair

Standard Rate

Visible wear: creasing on walls, old tape marks, moderate label residue. Structurally functional — walls hold weight, flaps close properly. Used for cost-sensitive shipments and storage.

Grade D

Economy

Base Rate

Heavy wear but still usable for single-trip applications. May have repaired flaps or reinforced walls. Maximum value extraction from boxes nearing end of reusable life.

What Determines Your Buyback Price

Buyback rates are not one-size-fits-all. Here are the six factors that influence how much we pay for your used boxes.

FactorHow It Affects Your Price
Box SizeLarger boxes (gaylords, oversized) command higher per-unit rates due to higher material content and stronger demand.
Wall TypeDouble-wall and triple-wall boxes are worth more than single-wall due to superior strength and longer remaining life.
Condition GradeGrade A boxes earn 2-3x the rate of Grade D. Clean, structurally perfect boxes have the highest resale value.
VolumeSelling 500+ boxes at once earns a per-unit premium over smaller lots. Recurring sellers get the best rates through account pricing.
ConsistencyUniform lots (same size, same grade) are worth more than mixed loads because they require less sorting on our end.
SeasonalityDemand for used boxes peaks before holiday shipping season (Sept-Nov) and during spring agricultural cycles. Rates adjust accordingly.

Selling to Us vs. Throwing Away
